A rare and exceptionally crafted Biedermeier secretary desk from the early 19th century, featuring striking bookmatched flame birch veneers and timeless architectural details. This European piece—likely Austrian or German—embodies the refined simplicity and neoclassical elegance of the Biedermeier period.
Features:
• Circa 1830
• Gorgeous flame birch veneer with symmetrical bookmatched grain
• Drop-front writing surface with interior compartments (secretaire à abattant style) with secret compartment
• Five functional drawers with original brass escutcheons and turned wood pulls
• Dramatic pediment top with finials and carved rope twist columns
• Solid wood construction with hand-cut joinery
Condition:
Structurally sound and visually stunning. There is a visible crack in the drop-front writing surface (see close-up image), consistent with age and veneer movement. This does not affect overall function or stability and could be restored if desired. Minor wear to corners and finish as expected for its age.
Dimensions:
76” H x 45” W x 22” D
This is a standout heirloom-quality piece ideal for a study, entryway, or statement bedroom accent.
